My wife and I have been to many improv shows over the years in NY, Chicago's second city, and even the improv festival in San Francisco. !Came here for the first night of a bachelorette party! RI's most award-winning comedy show is The Bit Players. If you like to laugh its a must.Came with a group of 9 last Friday night. Have not laughed so much in ages!I've returned to this venue several times. Additional shows are presented during school vacations, holidays and in the summer so check the website to see when shows are happening. They think fast on their feet, very fast. The movie follows a seemingly usual day in the life of Loida Malabanan as she embarks on yet another shooting day of a soap opera as an extra. It's improv like Who's Line Is It Anyway and they get the crowd involved. Worth noting that it is BYOB - they provide bottle opener and plastic cups.
Every show at The Firehouse Theater is BYOB. We loved the BOYB style, letting us enjoy beverages we wanted. I deff go back and I already told everyone I know... amazing experienceAbsolutely hysterical. In fact, three soon to be brides took part when we were there, and it was terrific. Adults are encouraged to use their own discretion as to what they deem appropriate for their children/party. Absolutely blown away. Doors open at 7:30, get there then!This was my 3rd time here. Have been 5+ times and have a great evening every time. The Bit Players are a fast paced and energized group of improvisation master-minds. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.Tonight couldn't be better. With this critical factor firmly in place and Santos in supreme form, Jeturian steers a more overtly comedic path once Loida and her spunky best pal, Venus (Tart Carlos), find work on the set of a soap opera regaling with the title of “You Were Mine First.”Constant chuckles and a fair supply of big belly laughs are the order of the day as Loida, Venus and a lovable collection of fellow nameless wannabees are herded like cattle by Josie, acid-tongued assistant director Vincent (Vincent de Jesus, hilarious) and the super-stressed-out director (Marlon Rivera) of “You Were Mine First.” As expected, much of the fun derives from scenes being shot for the wildly melodramatic “You Were Mine First.” To that end, Jeturian gets great value from guest appearances by a host of big-name local stars including hunky matinee idol Piolo Pascual as troubled groom-in-waiting Brando, Pilar Pilapil as severe matriarch Dona Esmerelda and a wonderfully over-the-top Cherie Gil as gun-toting super-bitch Dona Beatriz.For all the merriment on display, the screenplay never loses sight of the economic and emotional imperatives propelling Loida’s uncomplaining acceptance of her place at the bottom of the entertainment-industry food chain.
